Poster Abstract: An Open-Source IEEE 802.15.4 MAC Implementation for TinyOS 2.1

چکیده
The IEEE 802.15.4 standard has been attracting strong interest, but in the academic community so far very little research related to the IEEE 802.15.4 MAC has been evaluated experimentally, with real hardware under realistic conditions. This is mainly due to the fact that a stable, open-source IEEE 802.15.4 MAC implementation has been unavailable for a long time. Vendor-specific implementations are often proprietary, cover the standard only partially or are customized to a specific platform. Our work aims at closing this gap: we present our open-source, platform-independent IEEE 802.15.4-2006 MAC implementation, which has been published as a part of the 2.1 release of the TinyOS operating system.

Poster Abstract: Harvester – Energy Savings Through Synchronized Low-power Listening
Long-term data gathering with Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) requires drastic optimization of power consumption to provide a long system lifetime, especially for battery operated motes. In this work, we discuss Harvester, a low power data collection application that leverages recent advancements over the standard MAC and network layer components provided by the TinyOS-2.x operating system. Mor...
متن کاملERIKA and Open-ZB: a tool suite for real-time wireless networked applications
IEEE 802.15.4/ZigBee and TinyOS have been playing an important role in leveraging a new generation of largescale networked embedded systems. However, based on previous experience on the implementation and use of the IEEE 802.15.4/ZigBee protocols over TinyOS, several problems (producing loss of synchronization and even network crashes) emerge due to some limitations of TinyOS, namely related to...
متن کاملPoster Abstract: AMSecure—Secure Link-Layer Communication in TinyOS for IEEE 802.15.4-based Wireless Sensor Networks
Many wireless sensor networks (WSNs) for medical, military, and control applications require strong security protection of messages. Yet, the algorithms and protocols used must be efficient in space and time due to the constrained resources of sensor devices. Existing link-layer security solutions for WSNs, such as SPINS [3] and TinySec [2]), rely on software-level encryption and authentication...
متن کاملMeshMAC: Enabling Mesh Networking over IEEE 802.15.4 through Distributed Beacon Scheduling
Although IEEE 802.15.4 is being considered as a promising standard for low-cost low-power Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), several issues in the specification are still open. One of those open issues is how to build a synchronized multi-hop mesh network for power efficient, scalable, and robust networking. In fact, while the current specification supports multi-hop networking using peer-to-peer...
متن کاملDemo Abstract: On preventing GTS-based Denial of Service in IEEE 802.15.4
The IEEE 802.15.4 standard features some optional services, including the Guaranteed Time Slot (GTS) mechanism. It provides network devices with collision-free access to the medium to assure Quality of Service. GTS suffers from a severe security vulnerability: an adversary can easily perform a Denial of Service attack by selectively jamming collision-free communications. We present Secure GTS, ...
